2016 BLIA of Toronto Annual General Meeting

Despite a severe first snow fall in the Great Toronto Area this winter, members from the Fo Guang Shan (FGS) family were enthusiastic to participate in the “2016 BLIA of Toronto Annual General Meeting & FGS Temple of Toronto Humanistic College Commencement Ceremony”. Over 300 participants gathered together to celebrate their individual growth over the year of 2016.

The event began with Lai Wah Ng the secretary of BLIA of Toronto, playing a short video showcasing the increased number of committee members; improvement in performance; the sharing of experiences; and ended with the accomplishments of the volunteers. The allocation of resources were also presented in detail for activities in main areas such as culture, education, charity, and spiritual practices.

The committee members who made significant contributions over the year were recognized during the meeting including 46 members from the 10 sub-divisions; 24 from the Fo Guang Young Adult Division and the White Elephant Cadres; 23 leads/volunteers/parents from the FGS Scouts Team.

Following the committee meeting was the FGS Humanistic College Commencement Ceremony. Special thanks were given to the Dharma Classes (held in three divisions) and the hardworking teachers and students of the talent classes.  Awards were given to the students who wrote the 2016 Buddhist’s Exams and achieved outstanding grades which brought happiness and applause to the ceremony. Work from each talent class were put together in short videos. In addition, the students set up booths which showcased their accomplishments such as homework and art pieces.
