On the evening of November 24, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto hosted “Illuminate the Heart” Humanistic College Online Completion Ceremony 2020 via YouTube live streaming service and Zoom meeting platform. 160 members, including teachers and students, attended the virtual ceremony. The video on YouTube reached nearly 500 views that night.
On behalf of Fo Guang Shan Toronto Humanistic College faculty, Venerable Ru An said that with the guidance of Venerable Chueh Fan, the Abbess of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, Humanistic College launched various online courses including Dharma classes, meditation classes, interest classes, and English Dharma study group even during this difficult time.
Memorable footages from all the online classes were presented during the ceremony. There are group pictures, highlights from each class, well-designed presentations, and also the delicious food from the cooking classes. In the session called “Illuminate the Heart,” 56 student representatives recorded video clips to share one thing that they learned the most from the class, and the audience benefited a lot from it as well.
Venerable Miao Mu (Director of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and the teacher of “A Buddhist Approach for Management” class) encouraged everyone to seize the day and take every opportunity to learn. The teachers from each class also shared their experiences and feedback. Venerable Man Long from the Mandarin Meditation class emphasized the meaning of the Threefold Training of “Discipline, Concentration, Wisdom” taught by the Buddha. Venerable Miao Tsun from the “Stories about Great Buddhist Masters” class expressed that she learned along with the students throughout the online course. The team of teachers from the Vegetarian Cooking class also talked about their impressive experiences.
At the end of the ceremony, students with full attendance were recognized digitally with the 2020 Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto Humanistic College Perfect Attendance Award.
