COVID Heroes Program Recognizes Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and BLIA Toronto Chapter

On April 21, the City of Mississauga held a virtual tribute ceremony for COVID Heroes. The COVID Heroes Program recognizes Mississauga residents that have contributed to help the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of Mississauga, specially nominated Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto and BLIA Toronto Chapter as COVID Heroes for their compassion in fighting the pandemic, sponsoring Trillium Health Partners - Mississauga Hospitals, and supporting the Mississauga Food Bank.

The COVID Heroes project was planned by the Mississauga City Council and was nominated and recommended by the Mayor and District Councilors. Nominees for COVID Heroes were any individual, company, or group in the past year, during the pandemic, provided services to the community and assisted others in need like emergency workers, front-line medical workers, educators, helping the elderly in the community, helping at food banks, meal delivery, making face masks, etc.

The Mayor and City Councilors of Mississauga paid tribute to more than 520 COVID Heroes and thanked them for assisting neighbors, colleagues, and community members in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. The kindness of these extraordinary residents, groups, and companies has alleviated the challenges and struggles faced by many people.
