First Ever Drive Thru Sangha Day Celebration

In light of the current Covid-19 pandemic and the various restrictions placed by the Ontario Government, Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Toronto Chapter decided to organize its first ever drive-thru Sangha Day event at the car park of Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Temple of Toronto on Sunday July 26. As many as 700 BLIA members and devotees from the GTA and Waterloo areas participated in this unprecedented activity. About 200 vehicles, driving slowly through the front of the FGS Temple of Toronto and stopping at each station where they pay respect to the Buddha, make offerings to the Sangha and receive blessings from them.

All participants had to obey the preventative measures such as wearing masks and gloves, maintaining a safe distance between attendees and staying in their vehicles at all times, as laid out by the organizers in order to mitigate the risks of the spread of Covid-19. Most memorable was the Sangha who joyously received offerings from the devotees outside the temple.

Said the Abbess of FGS Temple of Toronto, “Our members’ spirit of unity, their unwavering resolute and pure offerings are in full display. This is indeed a most meritorious act to be rejoiced by all!”
